Our History

Marlene and Les welcome you to the New Glasgow Highlands. The campground was designed, built and is maintained by us to achieve camping excellence for you. Our campground is small and unique. We specialize in relaxing, quiet camping, clean and well maintained facilities.

We are both Islanders and have chosen to live and raise our family in New Glasgow, PEI. We built our home in l980 and in l996 acquired the adjacent land that the campground sits on from a local farmer. In August of that year Les who had worked with the National Park for 22 years decided he wanted to work for himself and build a campground.

In September of 96 the first trees were cut and roads and sites were cleared. Clearing the roads and cleaning up the woods was no easy task and our kids (Jonathan – 15, Katie – 12 and Ellen – 8) worked non-stop hauling wood and burning brush. Through the winter of 97 Les and his father (Robert – 70 years old at the time) started building. They constructed 12 camp cabins, a washroom facility, wood shed and in the spring completed a deck and fence around the swimming pool. We opened for our first campers in late June of 97. (We were so excited with our first campers we thought we had won the lottery).

Once the rush of the summer was over Les and his dad built 6 more cabins and the lodge. Over the next number of years we added a few more cabins and upgraded all our trailer sites to 3-way with 30 and 50 amp. Through continuous upgrades we have earned our 4-star rating. Each year we try and do something to make things better for our campers. Our children have worked hard and grown up here at the campground.

We have made many friends over the years and love to catch up with guests who return year to year. Meeting and getting to know our guests keep us enjoying what we do. Our goal is to make your family feel both welcome and relaxed during your stay with us in New Glasgow, PEI – “YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME”.
